How-to Guides

What's an ACA?

ACA stands for Associate Chartered Accountant.  To become a qualified associate chartered accountant (ACA), you must complete a training contract which will last a minimum of three years. In addition, you must complete a series of Institute exams and complete work experience requirements. There’s no denying it’s a challenging qualification and will involve a lot of hard work, commitment and determination from you, but once qualified, your skills and qualification will be recognised and valued in practice, industry, commerce and the public sector worldwide and can lead to a variety of career opportunities.

The study program for the ACA is taught in tuition and revision blocks for each examination entry. Initially you’ll attend college for approximately two weeks for the tuition phase to be taught the relevant material. You will then be back at work, on client engagements, for the intervening period when you’ll be expected to carry out home study to reinforce your tuition phase work. Finally you’ll attend a revision phase at college just prior to sitting your final exams.
