Cooper Parry invite business teams to enter running event
30 July 2010
BUSINESS relay teams are needed to join local advisory firm Cooper Parry in celebrating eight years of their corporate running relay which takes place alongside the Experian Robin Hood half marathon route on September 12.
Their relay event, the biggest individual fundraiser at the Robin Hood marathon, has raised nearly £200,000 over seven years and comprises teams of five – each member running a leg of about 2.5 miles to raise as much as they can for Treetops Hospice and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research – the 2010 marathon charities.
The event is designed to get businesses to think about getting fitter in a fun environment and also give something back to the local community.
Race organiser Melanie Campbell, said: "It's a fantastic event for businesses and is open to all level of runner. Some take part for fun and the team spirit, some want to compete for the title and others want to do it simply for the charities. Two-and-a-half miles is an achievable distance for most people and all competitors are well looked after on the day."
The overall winner of last year's event was East Midlands Development Agency (emda). Their team won the race in a time of 1:27:53. Second place was MMD Mining Developments Ltd in 1:28:41 and third was Perkins Restaurant, in a time of 1:31:57. The course record is still held by solicitors Browne Jacobson - 1:22:01 set in 2008.
Teams enjoy the hospitality of the Cooper Parry tent, they are taken to each changeover point and there are T-shirts and prizes for all competitors, including the team that raises the most sponsorship which, last year, was The SENAD Group - £2500.
For businesses interested in entering a team, team captains can register their entry up until August 27 at http://www.cooperparry.com/events/event/the-cooper-parry-corporate-challenge-2010-nottingham or alternatively, please contact Melanie Campbell on 0115 958 0212.
