James Thie, has broken the Nottingham record in the Tim Wealthall memorial mile sponsored for the second year by Nottingham business advisers Cooper Parry.
In a competitive contest 30 year old James from NY Athletics Club, belted a time of 4.02.1 in near perfect conditions. Runner-up, 26 year old Bruce Raeside who trains at Notts AC and runner up in 2007, got a PB of 4.03.9. Third placed Ian Boneham also Notts AC got a time of 4.06.9.
Cooper Parry offered £200 to the winner and an £800 bonus for a sub four minute mile time and £100 to the runner up plus a £400 bonus if they were to break the same target.
The race winner, James Thie said ’It’s a great race and it was a shame not to beat the target, but I felt tired mid race and was running on tired legs from a competitive event last night.”
James continued, “The bonus on offer by Cooper Parry is a great incentive and I’ll be back again next year to try and get the sub four minute target.”
Senior coach at Notts AC, Trevor Muxlow said “We had international entrants flying in just to have a go at the challenge.”
Runner up, Bruce Raeside said, this is a great event for Nottingham. There aren’t many opportunities to run a mile competitively.”
The Tim Wealthall memorial mile headlines the annual Notts AC club mile races event and is a tribute to Tim Wealthall who died in 1991 from a brain tumour. Tim was a county standard middle distance athlete who competed for Notts AC in local and national competitions.
Cooper Parry Partner David Browne added, ‘The Cooper Parry sub four minute mile challenge encourages elite runners to vie for records. It was a shame that James did not break the 4 minute mile but he did still beat the race record set last year by Chris Warburton. We were thrilled to be involved in the family event again and it was a great night for all.’
