How I can help

I have the experience that goes with "grey hairs", what few are left. In other words, I've been there and done it, both with Cooper Parry and with many corporate clients. I have a particular passion for the subject of corporate vision and strategy and am able to support and guide clients through the "process" and subsequent change. I'm a great believer in the power of a motivated team, committed to supporting the business leaders to achieve a vision.

I’m not the most technical person within Cooper Parry, most of my specific technical skills having been dissipated by a long term leadership role. I do consider myself though to be blessed with an extra dose of common sense and can usually select a sensible and simple path when clients are struggling with a range of options.

My experience

I have had many years of experience in advising and building a close relationship with a range of corporate businesses. In 1996, I became CEO at Cooper Parry and gradually migrated to a full time role as the practice leader. My empathy with clients comes from understanding the challenges of leadership and the benefits of having a fully supportive team behind you.

How long I've been part of the Cooper Parry team

All told I've achieved 33 years service. Having started in 1971 as a trainee Chartered Accountant, I had a 3 year break when I left after qualifying to become a partner in a smaller firm in Derby. The lure of Cooper Parry was too strong though and I rejoined in 1980. I've been here ever since.

What I did before

Nothing apart from that short stint as a partner in a smaller practice.

Great things I've done

I get most satisfaction from my achievement in leading Cooper Parry through a period of huge change, transforming us from a "run of the mill" but ambitious accounting firm into a fast growing and exciting firm of business advisers that faces the future with confidence.

I have achieved a great deal of pleasure from being closely involved with many successful clients. One that readily springs to mind is a Derby based business that I helped to acquire assets from its liquidator in 1998 and worked closely with through its development, culminating in a near £20 million sale in 2006.

My interests

I'm a long term Rams supporter through thick and thin (and there's been plenty of the latter). I’m also a keen angler – both trout and coarse- when I get the chance. I enjoy watching most sports although the attraction of 4 day cricket games is lost on me! However, I'm recently re-married and family life means a lot to me, taking up most of my available leisure time.
