CP Links Up Owen Pugh With Microsoft Navision

Owen Pugh and Company Limited, based in Newcastle, provides construction plant hire, earth moving and demolition contracting services, and the extraction and supply of aggregates and lime. There are 3 separate companies in the Group – Construction, Aggregates and Plant Hire.
In 2006 the company realised that due to its growth it had outgrown its financial, plant hire and contract costing systems. Director, Keith Dixon commented “Our systems could not cope with the increasing volume of transactions, and we had different systems in different areas of our business which did not talk to each other.”
The company reviewed the leading systems on the market. It needed one system that could meet the needs of the 3 businesses within the Group, and as the three companies trade with each other intercompany transactions are important.
The company turned to Derby based Cooper Parry IT Solutions for advice. Cooper Parry recommended the Microsoft Navision ERP system for the business. Head of IT at Cooper Parry, Peter Colledge, commented “Navision is a highly adaptable system. It already has comprehensive contract costing functionality, and for Owen Pugh we have now adapted the system for its Aggregates and Plant hire businesses.”
A key development for any aggregates business is a real-time link to the weighbridge. The company uses a leading weighbridge system called InfoTech and Cooper Parry has integrated it with Navision. When lorries pass over the weighbridge, tickets are produced automatically, passed to Navision and sales invoices generated. Keith Dixon commented “The weighbridge link is fantastic. It saves an enormous amount of time and generates accurate sales invoices on the spot”.
Navision is also used to process intercompany transactions, and to consolidate the results of the 3 companies. Peter Colledge added “The intercompany facilities in Navision are very strong. This saves the company significant amounts of time as intercompany transactions are posted once. Consolidation is completed in minutes”.
Keith added “We are very pleased with the Navision system and with Cooper Parry services. We are far more efficient as a result of adapting this system and it helps us to provide our customers with the best possible service.”
