Regional Business Advisers Cooper Parry has appointed James Martin as partner to their Business Recovery and Insolvency Services team to provide expert guidance for people and businesses facing financial challenges.
He arrives at a time of turmoil in the financial markets, where the credit crunch is now beginning to bite into the ‘real’ economy combined with the onset of stagflation. This in turn is leading to a much more uneasy business environment, and is in response to the ever increasing demands being placed upon the firm's Business turnaround, recovery and insolvency services team to provide support for clients.
James qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1987 and moved immediately into Business Recovery where he spent fifteen years working across the Midlands and East Anglia.
He established the Birmingham office of a business rescue, recovery and restructuring specialist in 2002 and after six years had grown the team to twenty, ultimately including corporate finance and commercial finance expertise.
James said, "I’m proud to have been part of that, starting as I did with a laptop and mobile phone, but I have been looking to position myself nearer to my home in Derbyshire and do more turnaround and advisory work."
When asked about what he’d like to achieve in his new role, he said, "I would like to raise awareness of the help we can give businesses who are facing financial challenges and influence directors and owners to take advice sooner."
When it comes to great things he’s done lately, James added, "I am proud of a company’s restructuring which we achieved via a Company Voluntary Arrangement when it was threatened by an ailing subsidiary. The outcome was that we returned it to £1m pa profitability and paid creditors nearly in full."
"One of the things I enjoy is the variety, just about everything, from a Grade II Listed Palladian mansion in Suffolk, to a bolt manufacturer in the Black Country and a groundworks contractor in Derby."
Tyrone Courtman, head of the Cooper Parry’s Business Recovery & Insolvency Services team, said "I am really looking forward to working with James. He will be a major attribute to the team and will bring much needed support and experience to help us deal with the ever increasing demand for our expertise in these difficult times. His appointment confirms our commitment to attract and retain the very best people in the region and demonstrates once again our commitment to help ailing businesses to survive and prosper where ever practically possible."
