The Art of Mentoring

How can you be a good mentor? How can you pass on your wisdom? How can you help people to find their answers to challenges? This course presents some skills, models and ideas to help you to work effectively with your mentee.

Who should attend?

Anyone proposing to or acting as a mentor, whether outside or as part of a formal mentoring scheme.

Objectives

By the end of the session delegates will be able to:

  • Effectively prepare for a mentoring session
  • Recognise the importance of negotiating the relationship and state what should be covered in the "contract" with their mentee
  • Apply the Five C mentoring model
  • Use empathetic and active listening and three level questioning techniques to help their mentee move forward
  • Create a personal vision and action plan for your mentee
  • Give constructive feedback to your mentee
  • Recognise when it is appropriate to end the mentoring relationship
