What do you do?
In a traditionally stand-offish, risk-averse industry, we know our words and the way we communicate are another way to stand out. So, I help make sure every piece of content that goes out on behalf of CP or our people is delivered in clear, real, bold fashion.
Naturally, that means I spend most of my days writing. From blogs and social posts to event invitations and award submissions. But, I also work closely with our graphic designers to make sure those words look – and feel – just right.
Why do you do it?
I originally started at CP in the People Team. Not knowing specifically where I wanted my career to go, I tried my hand at various aspects of employee engagement, including internal comms.
Apparently, those comms were pretty good, because when the Marketing team’s Copywriter left, Mel & Steve asked me if I’d be interested in applying for the role. One writing assignment and a few conversations later, I was in.
I’ve always loved the power of words. In song lyrics, poems, books, advertisements etc. So, this felt like a perfect role, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision today.
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
Our audience want words that are easy to understand and entertaining to read, so I get involved with a whole host of different projects.
I help lead How We Sound, a CP-wide writing and tone of voice project, delivered through workshops and one-to-one coaching. I’ve also worked on a long list of campaigns with teams across the business, various messaging overhauls, acquisition comms, award submissions, event invites, write-ups and much more.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
Being a serial festival-goer, I’d love to get my mits on a Glastonbury ticket one year. I’ve never lived outside of the UK, either, so that would be nice. The logical choice would be Berlin or Lisbon, and the adventurous choice would be either Hong Kong or Japan.
