What do you do?
I am building and running an outbound sales function to turbo-charge the growth of Cooper Parry! However, let’s be clear, it’s not a tele-sales boiler room. It’s a sophisticated process that leverages the knowledge we have as a business, gathers even more knowledge from the numerous conversations we have with business owners and finance directors and shapes that into genuinely valuable insights which we share with the businesses we want to work with ie where we can add most value as a business. Once those business leaders see the value we can add, that’s when they become a client. Simples!
Why do you do it?
I’ve always been a competitive type, I love winning (must be something to do with being a middle child), therefore, achieving targets and goals gives me great satisfaction, and sales is a natural fit. I know lots of people wouldn’t choose to do sales and it takes individuals with specific character traits and values to do this successfully for a whole career but I genuinely do enjoy it.
It took a little convincing to leave my last role, after over a decade leading the function of one of the largest accountancies in the country, but I’m so glad I did. Nowhere else has the dynamic and ambitious culture of Cooper Parry and my values couldn’t align any better with the firm’s. It also helps that it’s relatively easy to articulate how our focus on specific market segments allows us to provide value above and beyond any of our competitors (every salesperson’s dream!)
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
The work me and my team do varies significantly but it’s all about sharing valuable content with the business leaders in our networks.
Often, that’s on a one-to-one basis but there’s nothing better than bringing business leaders together to share insights and best practice and debate topics with their peers at our roundtables. They are the experts in what they do and there is so much opportunity to share and learn in those settings. They are the projects I love helping to shape and share with those who can most benefit from and contribute to the event.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
I don’t really have a bucket list. There are too many great things to discover and do to limit them to a list. I’m a family man and my goal in life is to ensure that my daughters grow up with all the opportunities to do everything they could wish for. Their happiness is top of my list!
