What do you do?

In short, I head up our team of accounting specialists across the Central Belt. Our team are all qualified accountants and work with our clients on short-term / secondment type contracts working with the client to resolve their finance problems. Examples include filling recruitment gaps, supporting with technical accounting, identifying process efficiencies and implementing new processes etc. 

Why do you do it?

First and foremost, I’ve always been good with numbers which led me into accounting. I also enjoy meeting new people, understanding their business and listening to their business headaches. Couple that with having a passion for problem solving, I find my job really interesting and rewarding. 

And yes, of course, I love spreadsheets! 

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

Focusing on my time at leading the Specialist team in Central Scotland, I’ve jumped into a finance team as Number 2 to a new Finance Director. My remit was firstly to steady the ship, identify efficiencies and improvements with the inherited outdated processes and implement those with a finance team that were passionate about driving change and implementing improvements.  

This included being part of the recruitment process to find the right individual that fits into the finance team to lead the team going forward. 

What’s on top of your bucket list?

I’m a list sort of guy, so to say one thing is very difficult. On the theme of lists, my two lifetime goals are to tick off all 282 Munro’s and all the top 100 Scottish golf courses. 

I also love travelling and seeing new places – my current #1 destination is South Africa, but having a young family is proving to be a hindrance in achieving this.
