What do you do? 

I’m an audit director for our Big Business team. For a long time my friends and family thought my job was about counting penguins thanks to an annual trip to the Falklands for one of my previous engagements. In reality I lead financial statement audits under IFRS and UK GAAP across a wide range of industries and work with lots of different types of clients including AIM listed and PE backed.

Why do you do it? 

I’m not sure anyone grows up with the dream of being an audit director but I always loved the idea of working in business and audit offered lots of opportunities to work with many different clients and teams.

The variety is the reason I stayed with it – one day you’re learning about how luxury shoes are made and the next how oil is processed. No day is really the same and I love that.

Having people on your team with varying backgrounds and access to peers across a wide range of services means you’re always learning and expanding your own experience whilst helping your clients achieve their own goals.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

I lead the audit of lots of interesting clients which keeps me busy but I also love getting to work on proposals for new work.

I’ve previously helped clients in navigating changes in accounting standards which can involve a lot of complexity outside of day-to-day accounting.

What’s on top of your bucket list?

I would love to explore New Zealand – with two young children it may have to wait a while but I’m determined to do it one day and see all of those gorgeous landscapes.
