What do you do?
I am a trainee solicitor working towards qualifying into corporate and commercial law. My job is to help clients achieve their goals and ensure they are protected from a legal perspective. I am happy to get stuck in wherever I am needed and love a challenge so my role is varied.
Why do you do it?
When I was younger, I took part in various music and arts projects. I learned that my ideal place was not on the stage but behind it and I developed an interest in copyright law. I wanted to use my brain, so I completed an English BA at the University of Leicester before converting to law. Through my degrees and my career so far, I developed an interest in corporate and commercial law in general.
I have particularly enjoyed working with owner managed businesses and feeling like I am actually making a difference to their businesses.
(Legally Blonde might have also played a role in my dream of being a lawyer!)
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
I am a junior member of the team, but am still given a considerable amount of responsibility. I have worked on various projects in different areas of law (including corporate, commercial, employment, property and others).
I have worked on share and asset sales from both the buyer and seller sides. I have supported clients whose businesses are undertaking restructures, creating Employee Ownership Trusts, EMI Schemes, creating Family Investment Companies and so much more. I like to solve problems and a challenge so I welcome just about any issue a client can bring our way.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
For me, it’s to see the Northern Lights. Second to that is to go somewhere remote enough to really see the stars…
