What do you do?

I head up a team of 8 qualified, part-qualified, and unqualified accounting professionals, providing Outsourced Finance support to clients in 3 key areas:

  • Retained Finance Support: Working with small to mid-sized clients, providing them with a full finance function, or the elements of a finance function that complement their in-house team.
  • In-house Support: Providing part-time interim solutions to our clients at Assistant Accountant and Management Accountant level, to help cover periods where they are under resourced.
  • Project Support: We offer annual statutory and corporation tax support to clients, along with project work which could include technical accounting, finance system migration, and finance team reviews, amongst other things.

 Why do you do it?

I enjoy the day-to-day interaction with our client base, helping them better understand finance in a way that’s relevant to them and how they run their business. It’s rewarding to be part of the growth journey of a business.

I’m also very lucky to have a great team, who all get on well. Helping them to learn and develop as part of their roles is a big part of why I enjoy my job.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

The work we undertake for clients within our department is wide and varied – from providing management accounting and cashflow forecasting support, to payroll, VAT, statutory accounting, and corporation tax work.

Whilst I oversee our internal team, and the relationships with clients, I have undertaken finance team review projects as well as system migration work in Xero. I also get involved in technical accounting projects such as purchase price acquisition work.

What’s on top of your bucket list?

A trip to Nashville! My wife and I are big country music fans, and we are planning a trip to visit its US heartland. That, and seeing Aberdeen Football Club win a Scottish League title, although this is more of a distant dream…
