What do you do?

I work in tax. What this actually means is that I help people to mitigate their tax risk and to minimise tax liabilities, as well as meet any obligations such as filings.

Why do you do it?

When I was at school, I decided to do accountancy or law. A careers adviser suggested tax and lined me up with an opportunity. I must enjoy it because I’ve been working in tax for over 30 years!

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

Over the years I have been involved in many areas of tax, albeit my focus is business tax. I currently assist private business owners, for example they may want to pass their business on to the next generation or sell to a third party buyer. Certain actions can have significant tax costs – but with careful planning, you can achieve the same objectives with a much-reduced tax charge – and in some cases, with no tax charge.

What’s top of your bucket list?

I don’t really have a bucket list as such but maybe to go to a few more countries once my children are older.
