What do you do?

I help private clients and private businesses navigate complexity and optimise their structure.  I partner with them through events such as sale, restructure and divestment as well as supporting their aspirations to manage and preserve their wealth through life events such as births, marriage, divorce and death.  I help business principals and families navigate succession with a view to preserving and creating value.

Why do you do it?

I started my career base on a graduate advert not a deep passion to get into tax – what I didn’t know is that my career would offer the privilege of working with the most highly successful business leaders and helping them navigate change.  I am a tax partner but spend most of my time helping solve complex problems be that business or personal – tax is just one aspect of that.

I have advised many clients on perhaps the most important decision of their life – selling their business and then setting up a strategy of dealing with their wealth.  Every situation is different – some owners have an amazing sense of loss following a sale of their business as it has been a way of life for them.  There are so many complex issues to consider – be that deal structure or how to ensure that children aren’t negatively impacted.

What’s on top of your bucket list?

I love to travel and have been lucky enough to visit some amazing places – being in Hawaii and witnessing at 3am a volcano starting for the first time since the 1970s probably being the stand out.  I have also have become increasingly interested and concerned about our impact on the planet and what we can individually do to protect our environment (ask me about bees any time).  So visiting the Galapagos islands is certainly high on the list.  It may be top – there are plenty of experiences that I would like to have and things I would like to do before getting anywhere close to a bucket!
