What do you do?

I help people who are buying companies make sure they’re actually getting what they think they’re buying. We go through the target company’s financial information, look for risks, unusual trends, and anything that could affect the value of the business.

WhY do you do IT?

I trained in audit but was always more interested in the commercial story behind the numbers than the compliance side, so TS was a natural next step. Running the finance for my family’s farm in Spain also gave me a real appreciation for cash and working capital. A few weeks into CP and I’m really enjoying it, especially getting stuck into a live deal early.

WhAT KINDS OF PROJECTS HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN?

I’m only a few weeks in, but I’ve already been straight onto a live buy-side deal, working on the net working capital and net debt analysis. It’s been a great introduction to how much value sits in the detail: a few adjustments to the debt-like items or the NWC peg can move the price by a meaningful amount, so getting it right gives our client real confidence going into negotiations and a stronger hand at the SPA stage. Before CP, I spent three years in audit across a broad mix of owner-managed businesses and groups. That gave me a good feel for how businesses actually run day to day, which I’m now using to dig into the “so what” behind the numbers rather than just the numbers themselves.

WhAT’S ON TOP OF YOUR BUCKET LIST? 

Pulling on a Spain shirt. I play touch rugby competitively and I’m aiming for selection for the Spanish national team at the Atlantic Opens Cup next August.
