What do you do?

I work with businesses to provide tax advice to companies as required. This includes working with the finance team to understand the wider group strategies so that I can help plan these in a tax efficient manner. More than tax work, I look to build a relationship with our clients and support them on tax matters as they require alongside managing their tax compliance process.

Why do you do it?

My dad was a chartered accountant and whilst selecting my A-levels, I had the option to choose accounting as a subject. I didn’t want to follow the medical route and so I decided that A-level Maths and Accounting would be a reasonable option. This is how I fell into accounting. After a year in audit, I decided to move into business tax and that was that. CP is a great place to work especially with the flexibility offered and the trust placed on individuals to just get on with their work. I have been very well supported from day 1 of joining CP.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

I have experience supporting clients to tidy up group structures and reducing the number of companies a group may have. For businesses, this helps to reduce the administrative burden and also helps to save costs. From a tax perspective, this involves understanding the ownership of the companies and to achieve a commercially suitable outcome for the group in the most tax efficient manner. I also specialise in Senior Accounting Officer projects which help clients to put a tax framework in place to meet their legislative requirements.

What’s top of your bucket list?

Top of my bucket list is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Since we got married, my husband and I have wanted to do this. As part of this, I want to go back to Tanzania where I lived in my childhood days and have many happy memories. My kids are still quite young at the moment so hopefully, this is something I can plan in a few years’ time (also need to up my fitness levels to climb!).
