What do you do?

I work with Automotive sector businesses to deliver audit engagements and ad-hoc assurance services, allowing them to focus on developing their business.

Why do you do it?

To put it simply, I was good with numbers as a kid, the opportunity to look at a career in accountancy appealed, and then I found a role that allowed me to enjoy being around cars, and earn a living as an auditor. Not a particularly detailed or thought out approach, but here we are over 28 years later, still enjoying it!

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

I’ve delivered a number of projects for both retailers and manufacturers in the UK and Europe over the last 20+ years. The audit is always going to be a difficult “sell” to make it sound exciting, but knowing the industry and the risks allows you to be efficient in the approach, and hopefully offer some value add as part of it. I’ve led financial due diligence projects on the sell side, and assisted in taking businesses to market, which has given me a great insight into the real world risks facing owners during this process, and have real world examples of how this has been mitigated. The wider network studies I’ve been involved have allowed me to build up a wealth of knowledge on how many different businesses’ perform, and how they adapt to challenges presented to them.

What’s top of your bucket list?

Its difficult to identify a short list, but I like messing around with cars and am happy in my own company. So anything which allows me to enjoy driving, and get a bit of headspace is good in my book.
