Let’s talk today
Want us to call you? Let’s start a conversation!
What do you do?
The short answer is that I’m a Corporate tax advisor, but that really can (and does!) mean anything.
On any one day I could be helping a business with their tax provisions for their accounts, I could be doing forecasting to help an owner with their budgeting, or I could be advising on a restructuring project. No one day looks the same, and I just want to be a client’s first port of call for any tax matters so we can work through them together.
Why do you do it?
Like lots of people, I sort of fell into the world of accountancy and tax! I knew I didn’t want to go to university and was OK with numbers, so I took up an apprenticeship role with a small accounting firm; eventually I ended up specialising in corporate tax with a Big 4 firm as that was the area I enjoyed most.
I really like that the technical elements of my job mean that I’m always continuing to learn new things as well as making a real difference by helping businesses manage risk & improve processes.
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
I really have done a bit of everything; there’s no challenge that I won’t get stuck in to if it benefits my clients!
But as my career has evolved, my main area of focus has been around helping large & complex businesses navigate the ever-changing tax compliance and governance landscape.
That means anything from making the CT return process more efficient, reducing tax risk with the use of technology, or advising on new legislation/areas of HMRC focus.
Some of the most rewarding engagements I’ve been involved with have been guiding businesses from the time they’ve been acquired through to exit; when all tax matters have been well thought through & obligations have been met can make a real difference to the value that the shareholders receive and it’s nice to know that you’ve been a part of it.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
Over the last 10 years I’ve combined my love of travel with my love of football, following the England football team home & away. That’s lead to plenty of great trips all over Europe and seeing us reach the Euro 2020 and 2024 finals, so top of my bucket list has to be seeing us win the World Cup.
