  • Director - Transaction Tax

What do you do?

I spend my time advising on deals, providing buy-side and sell-side tax advice on transactions focussing on the entrepreneurial mid-market / SME space.

Spotting tax risks and opportunities, and structuring transactions tax efficiently is my day to day. And keeping clients’ goals and aspirations in mind throughout the deal is key to our advice. As is taking a commercial and practical approach, working alongside corporate finance advisors and lawyers to protect value and ensure the transaction runs as efficiently as possible.

Why do you do it?

Helping clients through the transaction process to minimise tax risks, avoid unwelcome surprises and ultimately get the deal done is my passion.

I love the fast paced nature of the work, being able to support our clients with what is typically a once in a lifetime event of selling their business, and the opportunity to learn something new on every deal.

Working in the world of tax, it’s constantly changing and keeps you on your toes (and I love a challenge!). I work with an awesome team of people to make a real difference to our clients and deliver a WOW service.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

Having been at CP for over 15 years, I’ve been involved in various tax projects including pre-sale exit readiness reviews, advising on sales (to both private equity and trade buyers), vendor tax due diligence, buy-side structuring, tax due diligence, management buy outs, and pre and post transaction structuring.

Delivering projects, being able to give clients the peace of mind that they are going about their affairs in a tax efficient way, whilst also managing risk, is what we do.

What’s on top of your bucket list?

It would be too difficult to choose just one thing, so I’m giving my top 3:

  • To travel around Japan – it just seems such a fascinating place, from the beautiful landscapes, to the chaos of Tokyo
  • To learn to sew (and become such an expert sewer that I can enter The Great British Sewing Bee), if its still running by then!
  • To go to Oktoberfest – I love a beer and it just looks so much fun dancing on the tables to the Oompah band.
