What do you do?

I connect people with opportunities; it’s as simple and as complex as that. My role is about understanding what makes businesses tick and what drives individuals in their careers, then bringing the two together in a way that makes sense for both.

After 20 years in accountancy & finance recruitment, I’ve partnered with every size and type of organisation, from ambitious start-ups making their first finance hire to global corporates building senior leadership teams across sectors ranging from Agriculture to Tech to FMCG and Professional Services.

Why do you do it?

Like many recruiters, I fell into the profession as it appealed to my personality and skills.  I’ve made this my career, because I genuinely love it. There’s something incredibly rewarding about matching people with roles that can change their lives and strengthen a business. I thrive on communication: listening, advising, negotiating, and helping clients see potential they might otherwise overlook. I also love managing and developing teams to instil a passion for recruitment!

Recruitment requires a range of skills – stakeholder engagement, negotiation, consultancy, business development, influencing and patience! Recruitment done right, should be consultative and works in partnership with client and candidate.  That’s the dynamic I thrive on.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

I’ve partnered with start-up businesses to hire their first finance professional, built teams in international businesses, helped individuals secure a role offering study support to allow them to qualify.  All equally rewarding.  Every project is unique, interesting and challenging.  Client feedback is hugely rewarding and the right hire can be transformative for the individual, and the business they join.

What’s on top of your bucket list? (Again, elaborate. Why is it top?)

I am a huge fan of “Race Around the World” and would love to do a trip like this.  A trip to Disney World is also on the bucket list – I’ll say that’s for my children but really I am a huge rollercoaster and Disney fan – what’s not to love!
