- Offensive senior security consultant at URM Consulting Services
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I’m an offensive senior security consultant at URM with over 13 years’ experience in delivering technical assurance and consultative engagements. I’ve dabbled in quite a range of stuff including hacking, social engineering, coding and systems administration alongside more traditional consultative skills such as management and pre-sales. Aside from this, a large part of my time is spent mentoring and developing our junior team members, which I find really fulfilling.
Why do you do it?
I had a misspent youth in my bedroom learning about open-source software (especially Linux) and unwittingly obtained a ‘hacking’ mindset. This led to joining the local Linux user group where I met a penetration tester who offered me work experience as part of my degree. From there I was offered a job and it’s all been a bit of a blur since.
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
I’ve got experience across an incredibly broad range of sectors: Finance, Telecoms, Manufacturing, Energy and Automotive to name but a few. The size of engagement has ranged from days through to multiple years. This body of experience allows me to position myself to best add value, and when confronted with something novel, pivot in order to ensure that customers succeed.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
I yearn to move to the woods and never use a computer again.
