Our People

Simon Nichols

  • Partner - Transaction Services, London

What do you do?

I am a Transaction Services Partner and lead our rapidly growing London & South-East Transactions team. I help clients and lenders maximise value when they buy, sell or lend to businesses by providing focused, commercial and insightful advice around the financial aspects of the deal (financial due diligence). I also work closely with the wider CP Deals team (Lead Advisory, Transactions Tax) across our National network.

Why do you do it?

I get to work with amazing people on fascinating projects which are both intellectually stimulating and always different from the previous one. The advice we provide can make a huge difference for our clients in terms of both the deal value and speed of deal execution.

I’m also a Due Diligence geek! I love rolling my sleeves up and getting stuck into a negotiation around a particularly complex, judgmental ‘debt-like item’. I should probably get out more…

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

I’ve worked on deals for over twenty years so have experience of all types of acquisitions, disposals, demergers, IPOs etc. I spent many years at KPMG before moving to CP, and whilst my focus now is on advising clients in the lower mid-market space, I also have experience of leading teams on both huge, multinational deals.

I’ve covered lots of sectors in that time, but with a particular focus on Energy, Healthcare and Infrastructure. I’ve been lucky enough to work on exciting projects all over the world, including spending three years living and working in Kazakhstan!

What’s on top of your bucket list?

It changes all the time!

I’d love to take my two daughters on a safari in Kenya. I’m sure that would be an amazing experience.

I’m also a bit obsessed with running and would love to run a sub 3 hour marathon! You’ve got to dream, right..?
