Our People

Andrew Paschalis

  • Senior Tax Manager

What do you do?

I help people deal with HMRC when tax issues become complex, stressful or won’t go away.

That might involve handling an HMRC enquiry, including those under Code of Practice 8 or 9, or helping someone take the first step towards bringing historic onshore or offshore tax matters up to date through HMRC’s disclosure facilities.

Why do you do it?

I began my career at HMRC, which means I understand how enquiries are approached, how decisions are made, and what really drives outcomes behind the scenes. That insight now allows me to support clients from the other side of the table.

I enjoy helping clients pay the correct amount of tax based on the law and the facts, rather than simply accepting HMRC’s view.

I’m drawn to the challenge of complex cases, the strategy involved, and the satisfaction of negotiating fair and proportionate settlements that allow clients to move on with certainty.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

I tend to work on the cases where things are complicated, uncertain, or genuinely challenging.

That includes serious fraud investigations under COP9, multi‑jurisdiction disclosures involving several taxes at once, and disputes where the law hasn’t yet been fully tested and HMRC’s position isn’t the final word.

What’s on the top of your bucket list?

To do a backflip on live TV (I cannot yet do a backflip)
